Drum Victoria approach to learning:
Celebrate Rhythm & Percussion! Learn different styles of percussion... Drums are provided and beginners are welcome.
Most groove-based percussion music is created through interlocking patterns played by different people, sometimes on a variety of instruments.
The best way to learn this music (and to enjoy the benefits of playing it) is to spend time in a group setting with other people of varying experience levels.
Group study is an incredible opportunity to understand how to interact musically with other people. It involves patience, deep listening, and at times going outside of your comfort zone in order to improve musically.
You will absorb a rhythmic vibe that is created by the interaction of the different patterns. This musical interaction is very powerful and can only be learned in person with other players playing their respective parts. It is a kind of musical sharing and is best learned together.
In a group there will always be a range of different experience levels. Simpler patterns are played by beginners or students in the class who are less familiar with a particular rhythm. More challenging patterns are played by players with more experience, or who have spent time working on similar patterns previously.
Beginners are welcome to all classes workshops unless otherwise specified (eg: Level 2), and all instruments are provided unless otherwise specified.
You are welcome to bring a device to the workshops to record the rhythms at times designated for the group. You may also want to bring water, and snacks for the break times.
If you are unsure about workshop location (or any other details) please call or text me: (250) 514-3786.
Please note that for workshops, all registrations are final, non-transferable & non-refundable.
